Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how After the Verse (“the App”), provided by Joshua D’Alessio (“we,” “us”), handles information when you use the Android app. We designed the App to keep your personal Bible reading notes on your device.

What the App stores on your device

The App keeps the following on your device (for example in browser/WebView storage). It is not uploaded as a backup of your notes to our servers:

Personal reading notes you write about verses or chapters
Optional leader notes, saved study threads, Bible-in-a-Year plan progress, and last-read position
Local preferences such as daily reminder on/off and whether Plus is unlocked on this device
Local membership records for optional Groups (see below), such as a group id and a device key for that group

If you uninstall the App or clear its data, this on-device information is removed.

Optional Groups (cloud)

If you choose to create or join a Group, the App contacts our Groups API (hosted on Cloudflare Workers / D1) so members can share posted passages and mark “I read it.” For Groups, we may store:

Group name and join code
First names you enter for yourself and other members
Passage references and optional short notes a leader posts for the group
Who marked a passage as read, and related timestamps
A hashed device membership key (not an email or password)

Groups do not use emails, passwords, or location. Your personal Bible notes are not synced through Groups. Rate limiting uses connecting IP addresses to reduce abuse.

Plus and payments

Plus unlocks optional features in the App (for example some leader tools). As of this policy’s effective date, store billing may not yet be live in the build you install; Plus can be a device-local preview unlock during development.

When Plus is sold through Google Play Billing, Google processes the payment. We do not receive your full payment card number. Google’s own privacy policy applies to payment processing. We do not sell personal data.

Bible text

Scripture text in the App is from the Berean Standard Bible (BSB), bundled with the App for offline reading. Using the Bible text does not create an account with us.

Accounts, ads, analytics, and crash reporting

The App does not require a login account with us for ordinary reading and notes. We do not show third-party advertising in the App.

Based on review of the App package (version 1.9.15), we do not embed Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, AdMob, or similar third-party analytics/ads SDKs. Google Play (the store) may collect limited install or diagnostic information under Google’s policies when you download or use apps from Play; that is separate from SDKs inside After the Verse.

If a future release adds analytics, crash reporting, or cloud sync of personal notes, this policy will be updated before those features ship as stated facts about data collection.

Notifications

If you enable the daily reminder, the App may schedule local notifications on your device. Those reminders are not used to profile you on our servers.

Children

The App is a Bible study tool. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children for sale or advertising. Group first names are only collected if someone chooses to use Groups.

Data selling and sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share personal notes with third parties for marketing. Limited Group data is processed on our Cloudflare-hosted Groups API solely to operate Groups. Payment data for Play purchases is handled by Google.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy when the App’s data practices change. The effective date at the top will be revised when we publish an update. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
